Info for the 2019 Mallow 10 mile road race

Info for the 2019 Mallow 10 mile road race

As race day draws near we would like to update you with some details.

Number/ T-shirt Pick Up

Race number collection will take place at the below location and times:

Saturday 23th 12:30 pm to 4:30pm: Mallow Red Cross Centre, New Road (located at the entrance to Mallow swimming pool).

Sunday 24th 09:30 am to noon: Mallow Red Cross Centre, New Road.

Please see town map below for direction to race number pick up and race HQ.

Getting to the start line:
The start line is within walking distance, about 400m from the Youth Centre (Race HQ). Please see town map below for direction to race start line.

Porta-loos will be available outside the registration hall & in the town centre close to the start.

Bag Drop:
There are two areas you can leave your bags.

1) Youth Centre (Race HQ).
2) Fitness Solutions (Sponsors of Start & Finish line) are offering a ticketed bag drop for any runners wishing to avail of it. Fitness Solutions is located in the centre of Mallow and close to the start line.

Timing Chip:
The race will be chip timed. This means that you will get an exact time from when you cross the start line until you cross the finish line. Your individual timing chip will be on your race number. Please attach your race number to the front of your outer layer using the safety pins provided. Do not fold or bend the number as this may mean the chip does not work properly. Your race number must be clearly visible at all times, especially when crossing the start and finish lines.

Mallow AC will provide pacers for: 65, 70, 75, 80, 85, 90 minutes. The pacers will run an even pace throughout the race so stick with them if they are running at your target time. This will prevent you from running off the start line full of enthusiasm and feeling great over the first few miles, only to crash and burn before the finish. If you have any energy to spare burn it up over the last mile and not the first. The pacers will be easily identifiable at the start line and will line up in order, so the 65 minute pacer will be towards the front of the pack and the 90 minute pacer will be further back.

Course Detail:
The start line is only about 400m from the Youth Centre & finish line is just beyond the church on the south side of the River Blackwater. Youth Centre (Race HQ.) is 0.6 miles from the finish line. (See map) Full course description can be found on

Water Stations:
There will be two water stations on the course at approximately 3.5 miles and 7.5 miles and more water available at the finish area.

Refreshments will be available after the race in the Youth Centre (Race HQ).

There are limited showers available in the Youth Centre (Race HQ). Mallow Swimming pool located beside the Youth Centre (Race HQ) offer the use of pool showers for 3 euros.

Elite Entry:
While the main race is full, we have reserved a few places for elite entries with recent 10 mile times of sub 56 for men and sub 61 for women. Contact Paudie Birmingham at padraic DOT birmingham AT gmail DOT com or ring 086 3849159
