You will be aware that Mallow A.C. was forced to abandon its Annual 10 Mile event mid race on March 20th last.
This decision in conjunction with Gardai was necessitated in the interest of the safety and well-being of all participants following an unconnected tragic multi vehicle accident on the race route. We are conscious of the clear sense of shock and disbelief of all runners at the events which unfolded at the 3 Mile mark.
To the family of the late Roland Sweetnam we again offer our heartfelt condolences.
We acknowledge and are grateful to the lead runners who selflessly assisted the injured together with the Volunteer Crews from Mallow Red Cross who were providing cover for the event in addition to the multiple emergency services who attended the incident.
Unfortunately we are not in a position to reschedule the 2016 event.
Participants will appreciate that we are a Not for Profit organisation and that the significant costs associated with staging such an event have been borne and paid in full.
With this in mind , a decision has been taken to donate the entirety of the 2016 Prize Fund to the following causes & charities , all associated with the race.
Mallow Branch Irish Red Cross Society.
Mallow Search & Rescue
Michelle Finn – Donation towards her Olympic Campaign.
